JOB DESCRIPTION:
A chemical dispatcher coordinates the delivery and transportation of chemical products, ensuring efficient and timely distribution to various locations. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities to manage logistics operations and maintain compliance with safety regulations. Other related tasks as requested by supervisor as needed.
The schedule for this position is currently undecided considering the department operates 24/7 all year including holidays. This position will include some on call time to which it will be necessary for you to take calls on nights and/or weekends.
RESPONSBILITIES
1. **Scheduling and Dispatching:**
- Schedule and dispatch chemical transport vehicles based on customer orders, delivery schedules, and route efficiency.
- Coordinate with drivers to ensure timely deliveries and pickups.
2. **Logistics Management:**
- Plan and optimize delivery routes to minimize costs and improve efficiency.
- Monitor and track vehicle locations and status using GPS and other tracking systems.
- Adjust schedules and routes in response to traffic conditions, weather, and other variables.
3. **Communication:**
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with drivers, customers, and other stakeholders.
- Provide drivers with detailed instructions regarding delivery locations, safety procedures, and special instructions.
4. **Documentation and Reporting:**
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, and other relevant data.
- Prepare and submit regular reports on delivery performance, and other key metrics.
5. **Customer Service:**
- Address customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints in a professional and timely manner.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction by meeting delivery schedules and addressing any issues promptly.
6. **Safety and Compliance:**
- Ensure all transportation activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including safety and environmental standards.
- Conduct regular safety checks and audits of vehicles and equipment.
- Provide training and guidance to drivers on safety protocols and procedures.
7. **Inventory Management:**
- Monitor inventory levels of chemical products and coordinate with suppliers to maintain adequate stock.
- Ensure accurate record-keeping of product quantities and delivery receipts.
8. **Problem-Solving:**
- Quickly identify and resolve any issues related to transportation, such as vehicle breakdowns, delays, or route changes.
- Implement contingency plans to address unexpected disruptions in the delivery schedule.
9. **Collaboration:**
- Work closely with the sales and operations teams to align delivery schedules with business needs.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams to ensure vehicles are serviced and maintained regularly.
10. **Technology Utilization:**
- Use dispatch software, GPS tracking systems, and other technology tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy in the dispatch process.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in transportation and logistics technology.
NECESSARY SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience in dispatching, logistics, or a related field, preferably within the chemical industry
- Proficiency in using dispatch software, GPS tracking systems, and other logistics tools
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail in managing schedules and documentation
- Outstanding Customer Service Skills
- Ability to quickly identify and resolve issues
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local transportation regulations and safety standards
