PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Commodity Manager will support manufacturing requirements for the procurement of key assigned commodities and/or a manufacturing facility. Commodity Manager must utilize experience and exercise independent judgement and discretion to decisions on matters of significant importance and impact to the organization.
KEY RESPOSIBILITIES:
- Learns S&OP process (works with scheduling, plant operations, sales, and engineering to develop forecasts, implement procurement systems and process improvements to drive efficiency
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the assigned commodities i.e., pricing, trends, world markets, the potential supply base and their capabilities, and source from competitive suppliers who best fulfill requirements.
- Work with suppliers to develop assured capacity and on-time deliveries to meet manufacturing schedules. Support emergency expediting efforts for assigned commodities.
- Negotiate pricing, terms and conditions, lead-times and formulate contracts/agreements with suppliers to minimize total cost, improve quality, and assure on-time delivery with moderate oversite from Director or Sourcing Manager.
- Assist management in the development and execution of the supply management process that will maximize the contributions of our suppliers and support the achievement of strategic objectives.
- Organize and direct commodity teams with the specific purpose of improving internal communications and understanding and promoting consensus management and decision making.
- Work collaboratively with assigned manufacturing facility or commodity to understand material availability, overall purchase order performance, and inventory management.
- Supervise a team and determine overall buying strategy for assigned manufacturing facility.
- Work in unison with design engineering in developing new products via raw materials, design options, and/or procurement opportunities which would lower product costs and/or enhance the quality and value of products. Place order for prototypes parts.
- Keep parts updated with pertinent supplier data and to support the departmental efforts towards improving procedures, processes, systems and improving efficiencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- BS/BA degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
- Professional certification CPM/or APICS preferred.
- Minimum of 7+ years direct purchasing/buying experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience leading small teams.
- Good working knowledge of Industrial markets, manufacturing processes, and technical aspects of industrial commodities.
- Well organized, disciplined, and must possess high work standards.
- Strong ability to communicate effectively with fellow employees and suppliers.
- Ability to do what is morally and ethically correct in an expedient manner.
- Strong ability to perform maturely under stress and/or opposition.
- Excellent negotiation skills that breakdown barriers between parties resulting in agreements of mutual acceptance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Standard office environment with frequent exposure to Production environment
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds
- Ability to occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach
- Ability to work extended hours sitting at a computer
- Occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach with hands and arms at waist level and below the waist; and work in limited space.
