Job Title: Machinist
Employment Type: Full Time
Shift: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM–4:30 PM, Frequent overtime on Fridays
Pay Rate: Starting at $18.50/hour, Full Benefits Package
Location: Jamestown, ND
Job Summary:
A Machinist sets up and operates conventional, special-purpose machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
- Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
- Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers.
- Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media.
- Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required.
- Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
- Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
- Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems.
- Operates pneumatic, electric, or manual overhead chain hoists to properly move heavy parts into position for assembly.
- Operates forklift to move machine parts to other locations of the production operation.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:

- Basic ability in mathematics, reading, or writing.
- Must have the ability to work rapidly and under pressure for extended periods of time in order to meet build requirements.
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Knowledge of manufacturing materials, processes, and specifications preferred.
- Mechanical experience is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Must have manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work.
- Must be able to see details at close range.
- Must be able to lift 20 to 50 pounds occasionally, 10 to 30 pounds frequently and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
- Must be able to navigate facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, bending, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials.
- Wear and work in personnel protective equipment.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to moving mechanical parts.
- Noise level is moderate to loud.
- Frequently exposed to airborne particles.
- Exposure to heat/humidity during summer months.
