Job Description
General Statement of duties: Performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the area of welding, repairing and fabrication of county highway equipment. Performs skilled maintenance and repair work on a wide variety of light, medium, and heavy mechanized/automotive equipment.
Major Job Responsibilities: Performs tasks as assigned and necessary, including but not limited to: Services and repairs all county motorized vehicles and equipment; Maintains parts supply room, including inventory control; picks up parts and supplies as needed; Cleans and maintains county highway shop and supply room; welds, fabricates and repairs county highway equipment; and operates payloader, trucks and tractors to assist with snow removal and gravel hauling as needed.
Necessary Qualifications:
Detailed knowledge of the design, operation, maintenance, and repair of diverse types of light, medium, and heavy gasoline and diesel engines. Skill in the use of tools, materials, and equipment common to automotive work. Graduation from vocational school training in diesel/auto mechanics or five years mechanical experience may be acceptable.
Ability to communicate well through oral and written instructions.
Ability to perform manual labor, withstand variable weather conditions and work extended hours if necessary.
Possession of a valid driver's License and if necessary, the ability to obtain a South Dakota Commercial driver's license.
